3GPP - in Release 13, developed no less than three new technologies for the support of internet of things; Extended Coverage GSM Internet of Things (EC-GSM-IoT), LTE for Machine-Type Communications (LTE-M) and Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT).

EC-GSM-IoT is building on GPRS/EGPRS. The same GSM base station can covermorewide area and support more GSM terminal node communication.

The LTE-M, which is LTE-Machine-to-Machine, based on LTE evolution of IoT technology, which is called LTE enhanced MTC in R13, call eMTC. eMTC developed base on cellular network, supports maximum 1Mbps peak speed of upstream and downstream. It is middle rate in the Internet of things and support rich and innovative application.

The Narrow Band Internet of Things (NB-IoT) can be directly deployed to GSM network, UMTS network or LTE network.NB-IoT is to a large extent a new radio access technology. It can operate over a system bandwidth as low as 200 kHz, in stand-alone mode, within an LTE carrier.
